Our current website is outdated.

Here’s what I want to do:

  • Build us a sleek, new, information dense website that is useful to both the public and our members

  • Be the designated website guy. I can keep things fresh with updated information and photos

Objectives:

  • Create a professional, modern, kept updated landing page for the public

  • Provide an all-in-one, go-to location where our members can:

    • find information on various topics such as the collective agreement, C&B, OMERS, benefits, etc.

    • access resources

    • submit forms for things like C&B change proposals, committee sign up, clothing orders, retirement dinner registrations, etc.

    • update their contact information

  • Make being informed and involved convenient. No searching through emails, no coming across dead links or outdated information, no “where is/how do I find?”. Everything is located in one, easy to access location

  • Take pressure off the board members by:

    • reducing the number of questions they receive by having the answers to common questions available

    • have someone dedicated to updating information

  • Slow the spread of misinformation by having a “source of truth” that members can access at anytime

Of course, everything would be under the approval of the secretary/board and you would have access to the account. I would simply just manage it.

And as far as protecting sensitive information goes; each member would be able to create their own individual account and only those accounts would have access to the “members only” portion. If someone leaves the association, we can simply deactivate their account.

The pages I’ve created so far are a rough framework to show what’s possible. If you give me the green light, I’ll get to work populating these pages.

Cost:

  • $403.20/year to use the platform plus whatever you’re paying for the domain already.

  • 2.9% + $0.30 per order if you choose to sell clothing, retirement party tickets, etc through the site

  • There may also be a small fee for transferring the domain over once the new site is ready (maybe around $25 if I had to guess)

While sitting in the Stewardship course the other week, I found myself continuously thinking about how everyone should have easy access to this information. Every speaker that came in, reiterated how important it is to go back to our locals and spread the word. I try to stay updated with what’s happening and after taking that course, being actively involved with the union felt far more accessible. I believe there’s an opportunity to capitalize on this and create an amazing resource for our membership, particularly the younger generation and a useful tool for the board.

If you’re interested in what I’m offering, have a look around the demo site, starting with the home page. From there, I recommend browsing the other public facing pages before diving into the members only site. If you have any questions or want to discuss things further, please let me know.

If you’re not interested, this demo site will be deleted on November 19

Thank-you,

Lucas
